10 Twelve Days of Christmas (a2) Days 4 - 6

A Festive PowerPoint presentation

10 Twelve Days of Christmas (a2) Days 4 - 6

SIXTEEN CHRISTMAS PRESENTATIONS

Sixteen Christmas presentations have been added to the new “Festive Category”.
The presentations are based on the “12 days of Christmas” theme and each one contains lovely graphical backgrounds depicting “What my true love sent to me”. There are a total of 576 differentiated questions and answers which can be edited further if needed.

Each presentation starts with the words and music to the “12 Days of Christmas”, (just in case you fancy a sing-a-long with your class before you get going on the questions). It’s worth lingering here for a while because later on these will be tested here and there throughout the slides. The presentations all end with the complete set of graphics for all twelve days together with a “We wish you a Merry Christmas” jingle.

There are 12 different coloured interactive question buttons and 12 correspondingly colour coded and animated answer squares (or stars), each of which has its own distinctive sound as it bounces in once the hyperlinks are pressed. PowerPoint XP is required as a minimum to get the animations.

The questions mainly test mental maths skills but there are some that test subject knowledge and a few are of a more fun/recreational nature. Slide 43 of each presentation is a printable worksheet giving all 36 questions on to which students can write their answers.

Question Structure:
The presentations are arranged in 4 blocks of 4 as shown below and range in difficulty from approximately level 2/3 at the beginning of block (a) to some grade A/A* at the end of block (d). Please note that easier and harder questions are scattered throughout the presentations so that everyone has a chance of answering at least some of the questions whilst the few A/A* at the end of block (d) are obviously designed to test top sets in year 10/11. It would be surprising if any student managed to get all 36 questions correct within a presentation and it would be a real achievement (almost impossible) if a student answered all 144 questions within a block correctly.

Guidance on using the Festive Presentations.
Please bear in mind the following when purchasing from the Festive area:
• The questions are designed to be done mentally and calculators should not be used.
• The questions range in difficulty from level 2/3 at the beginning of block (a) to grade A/A* towards the end of block (d)
• The 36 (or 48) questions within each block increase in difficulty slightly as you work through each set of 12 questions.
• There are some easier questions scattered throughout the blocks so that everyone has a chance to get at least some correct.
• Because the questions test maths skills and knowledge as well as mental arithmetic it might be that a very bright primary student with sharp mental arithmetic skills may be able to answer a few of the questions in block (d) but would obviously not be able to answer questions on such things as irrational numbers, negative indices and trigonometry etc.

Bearing in mind the above, as a very rough guide for all presentations in the festive area the suitability is as follows:

Block (a) Questions at the start are appropriate for some young primary school children including Key Stage 1 and average ability primary students at Key Stage 2 towards the end of the block. They are also suitable for SEN and low ability students at secondary school.
Block (b) Able/very able groups in primary schools /a spread of middle groups at Key Stage 3 and 4 at secondary.
Block (c) Some middle and higher sets at secondary school at both Key Stage 3 and 4
Block (d) Top sets and some good middle sets at Key Stage 4.

Overseas Teachers
Bearing in mind the above, as a very rough guide for all presentations in the festive area the suitability is as follows:

Block (b) Suitable for a range of students from age 9 to15
Block (c) Suitable for a range of students from age 11 to15.
Block (d) Suitable for the brightest students at age 14 to17.
