The presentation starts by reviewing the terminology associated with division, namely the dividend, divisor, quotient and remainder in relation to improper fractions and mixed numbers. We then relate this to algebraic fractions before looking at methods of writing them in the form q + r. We start with simple algebraic fractions that will cancel with a one-term factor. We then move on to develop carefully the two main methods of long division and inspection. There are clear demonstrations of how these methods work together with several questions.
