This presentation derives the equation of a circle with centre (a,b) and radius r. Subsequent example questions/student questions look at finding the equation of a circle when a,b and r are given, as well as determining whether a given point lies on, in or outside the circle. Apart from this we look at how to recognise the equation of a circle in the form x2 + y2 + px + qy + c = 0 and how to determine its centre and radius. The last slide contains a printable worksheet.
